iTracker: Installing Antennas

Step 4: Installing the Antennas

Bluetooth Antenna

Attach the Bluetooth antenna to the iTracker. The Bluetooth antenna will be attached to the SMA connector marked with the Bluetooth symbol.

Cellular Antenna Install

Cellular-enabled iTrackers require the antenna to be properly positioned to receive wireless signals. The provided Roadmarker antenna is a D.O.T. grade, omni-directional cellular antenna that can be installed above the manhole lid.

Equipment Needed:
• Combination rotary hammer drill
• Thru-hole drill bit for rotary hammer (5/8” x 24” or greater if required)
• Road reflector adhesives: Dalton Latex-ite (Available at Home Depot), Fastpatch or Quickdots

Installation:
• Using the rotary hammer drill, drill an access hole from the street to a point beneath the manhole collar at approximately a 45-degree angle.
• Next, snake the antenna wire through the access hole.
• Use an appropriate road reflector adhesive to adhere the flat bottom of the antenna to the road.
• Place the antenna, so it completely covers the cable and hole.

Let’s insert batteries and lower the iTracker.
